Smoky Canyon Dam – Earthfill Dam Raise

DelHur raised the existing earthen dam by 43 feet. The project included dewatering the downstream foundation, aeration of unsuitable foundation material, a sand filter drainage system, placement of select backfill, compacted embankment fill and hauling and placing riprap from the mine site to the upstream shell of the dam to prevent erosion. The construction was completed in three months due to a short construction season at 6,500 feet in elevation.
